The
Area
Banffshire and Moray
Cullen is ideally situated for exploring to the east along the Banffshire Coast, to the west along the Moray Coast, or inland along Speyside. The Banffshire Coast enjoys its own special micro-climate - the influence of the warming North Atlantic Drift and the shelter from the Grampian Mountains having a mellowing effect, resulting in it being milder and dryer. And the Moray Firth coastline is in the world's top 18 coastline destinations - according to a survey by National Geographic Traveller Magazine.
Some of the comments made by the panel of 340 experts include: "A popular vacation spot for more than a century, this coast offers outstanding cliff scenery and maintains a strong community feeling." "A wonderful region of Scotland. Beaches are fantastic, and the area welcomes visitors as one of their own." "An undiscovered gem with pretty coastal villages, excellent beaches and outstanding cliff scenery." "The area is attractive to walkers, cyclists, wildlife watchers and surfers. It also offers whale and dolphin watching." The area offers something for everyone - whether you are a lover of Nature, History and Heritage, Art and Culture, Water Sports, Wildlife and Fishing, or more active pursuits like Golfing, Walking and Cycling. Cullen is an excellent base for exploring the Malt Whisky Trail (with each of the 8 distilleries within easy driving distance of the coast) and the Castle Trail (starting with Duff House in Banff). There are over 30 golf courses within one hour's drive of Cullen, with two royal golf courses in close proximity - Royal Tarlair in Macduff and Duff House Royal in Banff.
Shopping is also a must - with the Baxters shop and Christie's just 12 miles away at Fochabers, the Dean's Visitor Centre in Huntly (the first Scottish visitor centre dedicated to shortbread) and Celebrations in Turriff. Johnstons of Elgin offers an audio visual presentation about the history of cashmere, as well as a mill tour and a shop full of the wide range of products which are manufactured from luxury fibres. And, each year, the area plays host to a variety of festivals, celebrating the area's strong maritime and musical heritage, including the famous Scottish Traditional Boat Festival and the COAST Festival of the Visual Arts.
